  1. What is the Technology Academy?
The Academy is for students who have a keen interest in technology. Our program offers three concentrated strands: pre-engineering technology, information technology, and entrepreneurship technology. Students attend Landstown High School full-time, where they are able to meet the requirements of either the standard or advanced studies diploma. Academy courses count as electives courses.

  2. Who is eligible to apply to the Technology Academy?
For the upcoming school year, 100 rising ninth graders will be admitted to the Technology Academy. Students in other grade levels may apply; however, admission is offered on a space-available basis.

  3. Is transportation provided?
The division provides express stop bus transportation to admitted students who live out of the attendance zone. At the start of the school year, Transportation Services maps the student routes based on the address in the student database. To avoid transportation delays, it is important that the correct address is in our computer system. After-school activity transportation is also provided should your child play a sport or be involved in an extracurricular activity.

  4. How do I apply to the Technology Academy?
There are two parts to the application process:

    (1) written application and
    (2) electronic portfolio

All middle school guidance offices have the upcoming year’s Academy application. Students should take care to follow the directions and to complete the application legibly. You may also download the application and the electronic portfolio instructions here.

Students must submit an electronic portfolio with their application. There is a document that offers eight suggested activities; students select three of the eight to complete.

    NOTE:
The disk or CD of activities must accompany the application in order for the application to be considered. Any disk or CD media turned in with the application cannot be returned to the applicant.

  5. When is the deadline for applying to the Technology Academy?
All applications, including the electronic portfolio must be received at Landstown High School by the first Friday in February.

  6. When will applicants be notified whether they've been offered acceptance?
Notification letters will be mailed to applicants before the Spring Break holidays.

  7. Can I arrange a visit of the school or shadow an Academy student for the day?
Please contact Ms. Muldon to arrange a mutually convenient time to visit Landstown High School and the Technology Academy.

  8. What is meant by being able to earn Associate's degree credits?
Student may be eligible to earn, or to work towards an Associate's degree in Applied Science from Tidewater Community College. Mere enrollment at Landstown High School and Technology Academy will not guarantee an Associate's degree. Students will have to take some classes on their own time (after school or during the summer).

  9. My child will be attending the Governor's School program. Is it possible for him/her to still attend the Technology Academy?
This is possible; however, a student who will attend Governor's School and also wishes to attend the Technology Academy may have to take required core courses in summer school.
