Mr. Brian Baxter - Principal (Principal's Message)
- Raised in Pennsylvania and moved to Virginia in 1985.
- Undergraduate degree in Secondary Education, with a concentration in mathematics from Kutztown University
- Graduate degree from ODU with a concentration in administration
- Taught 2 years in Portsmouth Public Schools (math 9 through math analysis)
- Has been in Virginia Beach for the past 18 years
- Taught 5 years at Plaza Jr High (math 7 through Algebra 1)
- Promoted to AP in 1992, at Tallwood High School for 12 years
- Promoted to Principal of LHS in 2004
- 2007 High School Principal of the Year
Ms. R. Lisette Richardson - Technology Academy Coordinator
Ms. Richardson was born and raised in Norfolk, VA and recently returned to Virginia after ten years in the Kentucky educational system. She received a Masters in Education, Administration and Supervision from Austin Peay University. She has previously served as an Assistant to the Superintendent, Director of Students Services, Elementary School Principal and Assistant Principal, Program and Departmental Chairman, and classroom teacher for grades 7-12.
Ms. Paula Johnson - Assistant Principal
Ms. Johnson’s career started in 1989 at Ocean Lakes Elementary School, where she taught fourth grade. In 1993, she moved to the middle school level to teach mathematics at Salem Middle School and later at Larkspur Middle School. She moved to the high school level in 1999, teaching geometry at Cox High School and later at Landstown High School. In 2003, she joined the Online Geometry Team and eventually taught two courses. Ms. Johnson became the School Improvement Specialist at Lynnhaven Middle School in 2005. She is currently an assistant principal at Landstown High. In her seventeen years with VBCPS, Ms. Johnson has worn several hats from grade-level chair to SCA advisor. In addition, she has received a number of acknowledgements for her work in and out of the classroom. Her goal is to help as many students as possible see their true potential; for if they can see it, they can achieve it.
Mr. Thomas Taylor - Assistant Principal
Mr. Taylor has been a resident of Virginia Beach since 1996. Mr. Taylor taught social studies for three years in Chesapeake, Virginia before coming at Landstown High School. At Landstown High School he taught VA/U.S. History for one and a half years and was named the Distinguished Teacher of the Year in 2005. In his teaching career, Mr. Taylor has sponsored SCA, Model United Nations and has coached Football and Debate. Before becoming an educator, Mr. Taylor was the National President of a 501c3 organization based out of Washington, D.C. Mr. Taylor has also worked as a small business and political consultant in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Mr. Taylor became the School Improvement Specialist at Landstown in February 2005. Mr. Taylor received his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Virginia in May 2006, and was appointed Assistant Principal in December 2006. Mr. Taylor loves his wife and two daughters, UVA football, reading, and Landstown High School.
Ms. Dees was raised in the Shenandoah Valley, and
graduated from Fort Defiance High School in 1990. She went on to play
collegiate volleyball at Radford University and later at UNC at Pembroke.
After graduating college, she taught at the middle school level in North
Carolina for one year and then relocated to the Virginia Beach area. She received a Bachelor's degree in Secondary English Education from the University
of North Carolina at Pembroke, and a Master's degree in Urban Education with an Administration Endorsement from Norfolk State University.
Ms. Dees was an English teacher and department chair at Virginia Beach Central Academy for seven years.
Mr. Miller received his Master of Arts degree from The George Washington University. In his spare time he enjoys reading, biking and travel. Mr. Miller was named Green Run High School "Teacher of the Year" in 1996 and Landstown High School “Teacher of the Year” in 2004. Mr. Miller spent fifteen years in the classroom before becoming an administrator in 2004. Recently, he was chosen as the 2007 Assistant Principal of the Year.
Mrs. Copeland received her Bachelor’s degree in English from Virginia Tech and her Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling from Norfolk State University. Prior to coming to Landstown High School in 2001, Mrs. Copeland taught English at Kempsville Junior High School, now Kempsville Middle School, at First Colonial High School, at the Literacy Center, and at Kellam High School. She transitioned into guidance at Kellam High School for several years before transferring as a school counselor to Landstown High School where she currently serves as the Guidance Department Chair.
Mr. Siock received his bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Syracuse University in 1993 and his Master's in Sports Management from Old Dominion University in 1999. Prior to coming to Landstown High School, Mr. Siock taught mathematics and served as the Assistant Student Activities Coordinator at Bayside High School.
Ms. Amy Sulcer - Administrative Assistant
Mrs. Sulcer is a true Virginia Beach native. She has lived in this area for more than 28 years. She earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Old Dominion University. Because Mrs. Sulcer values the opportunity to share her love of teaching and learning with others, she earned her Administration and Supervision endorsement from The George Washington University. Before coming to Landstown High, Mrs. Sulcer taught science at the Beach for nine years at Plaza Middle School. Last year, she served as our school’s testing coordinator and School Improvement Specialist. Mrs. Sulcer is excited to continue her service at Landstown as the Administrative Assistant. Go Eagles!
